Metrolink Airport line update
Updated 18 January 2012
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is currently building a new Metrolink extension from Chorlton to Manchester Airport. We previously informed residents in July 2011 of utility diversions that are taking place as part of the construction works.
We are now providing an indication of further utilities works that are expected to be carried out until approximately Summer 2012. The dates provided are indicative and may be subject to change.
Following the completion of utility diversion works, our contractors MPact-Thales (MPT) will begin construction of the main Metrolink infrastructure. In your area the key construction works that will be visible in the next few months will be as shown on the maps below.
During these works some traffic management measures will be in place, we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum. The key works are as follows:
Metrolink works taking place between Mauldeth Road West to M60
- Chorlton High School: United Utilities will be working within the existing compound at the school from mid February 2012. This will have no impact on road vehicles or pedestrians.
- Nell Lane: United Utilities will be working on Nell Lane at its junction with Mauldeth Road West from mid February. These works will require the closure of Nell Lane (on the Chorlton High School side only) for a period of one month. During these works Nell Lane can be accessed from Wilbraham Road, via Withington Road or Barlow Moor Road (detailed plan attached). Diversion signs will be in place.
- Hardy Lane Road Closure: These utility works will continue and are expected to be completed, ahead of schedule by mid February 2012.
- Hardy Lane: utility works on Hardy Lane will be ongoing with localised lane restrictions.
